Photo Exhibition: “One Day, I Will” by Vincent Tremeau Presented at the United Nations Pavilion, Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and Kumon Institute of Education Co., Ltd. (KUMON) are pleased to announce their collaboration on the photo exhibition “One Day, I Will – The Right to Dream” by French documentary photographer Vincent Tremeau. The exhibition will be held from Wednesday, July 2 to Thursday, July 10, 2025, inside the United Nations Pavilion at Expo 2025 in Osaka, Kansai, Japan.

Background and purpose
Since 2014, “One Day, I Will – The Right to Dream” has documented the dreams of children affected by humanitarian crises across over 20 countries. Tremeau’s approach is unique: he invites children to dress up and express what they wish to become in the future—using only materials around them and without spending money. These powerful portraits capture not only their aspirations but also the environments that shape them.

The project, supported by OCHA, continues to promote global awareness and empathy through visual storytelling. By giving children, a platform to express their dreams, the exhibition challenges the narrative of conflict and crisis and affirms the dignity and imagination of each child.

Japan Collaboration – A New Chapter in Noto
For this exhibition at Expo 2025, the project welcomes a new dimension: children from the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan, who were affected by the 2024 earthquake. With support from KUMON, Tremeau visited Suzu City in early 2025 and conducted photo sessions with local children. Despite the devastation and temporary living conditions, the children shared powerful visions of their futures.

Among them were children who dressed as firefighters, ice cream makers, carpenters, and more. One girl expressed a desire to be the first female firefighter she’s ever known. Another child, having seen her father’s home destroyed, vowed to rebuild safe, colorful houses. These portraits reflect resilience, inspiration, and the power of education and imagination to light the way forward.
